WHO Event Information Site training course

Project details

Year: 2020-2021

Client: World Health Organization - Headquarters (Lyon Office)

Objective: Analyse the use of the WHO Event Information Site by IHR National Focal Points and develop a dedicated online course.

Deliverables:

  • Case studies of WHO Event Information Site users
  • Training plan and supporting material for an online course
  • Evaluation report of the course pilot

Performed activities

In 2005, the International Health Regulations (IHR) were revised to ensure global preparedness for any type of public health event of international concern.

The World Health Organization (WHO) created an electronic platform, the Event Information Site, to facilitate secure and timely communication between National IHR Focal Points and WHO.

Interviews with users of the Event Information Site from nine countries were performed, transcribed and analysed to:

  • Understand the current use of the site by different countries
  • Identify reported limitations and gather recommendations to improve the site

Based on the interviews’ results, we produced a training plan and facilitator’s guide for an online and synchronous course.

  • The course aims to provide participants with an understanding of the Event Information Site and its benefits
  • Between 6 and 20 staff of IHR National Focal Points and WHO IHR Contact Points are expected to participate in three two-hour online sessions with assignments in between

Eighteen participants participated in the first version of the course in March 2021. This pilot was evaluated and a detailed report produced on:

  • the knowledge and skills acquired by participants
  • their satisfaction
  • the reported best aspects and difficulties of the course
  • proposed improvements
