Ten years of work history in research and project implementation.

Extensive experience working among multidisciplinary teams in diverse environments: academia, research institutes, public health agencies, and hospitals. Projects in Europe, West Africa, and South-East Asia.

Main interests: determinants and obstacles of access to healthcare, individual experiences of health and ill health, health policy.

Preferred approaches at the intersection of public health and medical anthropology: ethnography, qualitative methods, and mixed methods.

Currently undertaking a PhD in Anthropology at Durham University, UK.

Work history

Since 10/2021: Independent Consultant in Global Public Health

  • For the Stockholm Evaluation Unit, Médecins Sans Frontières with Sigia Consultancy: Evaluation of MSF’s Lassa fever project in Ebonyi State in Nigeria, over the period 2018-2022. Public report available.
  • For the Uganda Ministry of Health, with the Core Team of Integrated Outbreak Analytics (IOA) . Development of a toolkit to train field workers in conducting integrated outbreak analytics using mixed methods.
  • For the Global Public Health Department at Karolinska Institutet: Scoping review of existing theoretical frameworks underlying audit and feedback practices in maternal health and childcare, as part of the QUALI-DEC project .
  • For the Mixed-Methods Research Technical Support Group, Epicentre: Co-founder of the group. Training of field assistants and epidemiologists in qualitative and mixed-methods research (workshop, development of training material and training delivery). Methodological support of the study protocols for ongoing and upcoming studies (drop-in methodological consultations, advice and review of study protocols and tools). Support for the redaction of reports and scientific publications.

  • Co-PI of a qualitatively driven mixed-methods study on disease knowledge and healthcare-seeking behaviors in the context of Lassa fever disease in Nigeria: study design, data collection (in-depth interviews, focus groups, direct observations, community mapping), data management, data analysis, communication of the results.
  • Oversight of a study on human-rodent interaction in the context of Lassa fever disease in Nigeria.
  • Secondary analysis of study data exploring the cultural domain of concepts of illness in Cross River, Nigeria.
  • Training of research assistants and students in qualitative methods and data management.

  • Coordination of a longitudinal study on HPV and cervical lesions in HIV-positive women in Thailand: oversight of the data collection and data analysis, communication of the study progress and results.
  • Project oversight of and research contribution to a mixed-methods study on HCV among people who inject drugs (fieldwork): oversight of the data collection (survey), training of research assistants, data management and analysis, study site recruitment, resubmission to the ethics committee, qualitative data collection (in-depth interviews with stakeholders), communication of the results.

  • Project oversight and research contribution to a multi-country project (China, UK, France) to optimize care delivery models to support aging-in-place: assistant to the French PI for timeline and budget management, contribution to the organization of a scientific seminar, coordination of the French research team, scientific participation in the work package on care delivery, communication representative for the French team.
  • Research contribution to a multi-country panel study on 50+ aged people in Europe: data management of the French database, data analysis, communication of the results.

11/2014 - 05/2015: Medical and Scientific Department of Expertise France (formerly ESTHER) - Paris, France

  • Co-PI of a post-hoc evaluation study of a program led by ESTHER to promote HIV screening and care among prisoners in Cote d’Ivoire (fieldwork): scoping review, design of a mixed-methods study, data collection (in-depth interviews and key informants interviews and quantitative data on HIV diagnosis and treatment uptake), communication of the results.
  • Project oversight of an operational research study to supplement HIV-mothers’ infants suffering from undernutrition in Benin (fieldwork): data collection oversight, data management and analysis, design of a quality control protocol, training of research assistants, enrollment of a new study site.
  • Contribution to the local Ebola taskforce during the 2014 crisis in West Africa: coordination of meetings with focal points and external experts, contribution to writing grant proposals for the Global Fund and hygiene SOPs for field staff.
